For decades pearls have been seen as a sign of status and elegance. From a sweet sixteen to a golden anniversary, pearls are always the right choice.
And sometimes the most beautiful things come from a fight to survive.
The Creation of a Pearl
A pearl is formed through a unique and beautiful process. A regular clam or oyster experiences a foriegn invader; something like a grain of sand is inserted into it and this causes the clam discomfort. To combat this, the oyster then creates a nacre like substance around the particle, layer by layer, not giving up until a pearl is formed. What was once an irritant is now one of the purest and most valuable gemstones in the world today. What was once a source of conflict and pain for the oyster is now known for it's raw natural beauty and resilience. A pearl is a hopeful reminder that the story is still being written and that there is always the potential for transformation and a brighter future.
Our Pearls
All of our pearls have an AAA rating or higher and are certified genuine cultured pearls.
Almost all pearls in the world today are what's called "cultured" meaning that they are harvested on pearl farms and not found in the wild. It's estimated that there are almost no natural wild pearls left in the world today. At Purity Pearls, we sell freshwater pearls, meaning that they are grown in freshwater, rather than salt water. Freshwater pearls are known for their lovely white or ivory hue and round size. Freshwater pearls also come at a more afforable price than other pearl types such as Akoya or South Sea pearls.
